Publishers discuss transforming a dissertation into a book
During the 2013 International Open Access Week, UCLA Library hosted an ambitious and well-received event addressing the question of whether making dissertations available online hurts authors publishing prospects. Panelists included four acquisitions editors from reputable scholarly presses, as well as a Partner Relations Manager from Proquest. Co-sponsored by the UCLA Department of English, the UCLA Department of History, Proquest, and the UCLA Library, the event was planned by Marta Brunner and Diane Gurman, with videography by Martin J. Brennan.
The video above is abbreviated. The entire event video is available to UCLA students, faculty, and staff at : library.ucla.edu/service/dissertation-book

Wow so motivated and energetic teacher .. thanks for this great session
Pls come to the point.
That woman is a griefer. It’s terrible to just listen to the way she assigns responsibilities and complains about all stupid things…
Based on [her] theory, Professor Courtenay Raia describes what is meant by “magical thinking” in her book THE NEW PROMETHEANS, (2019). All in all, [perhaps] she demonstrates (through her book and in her introductory lectures) that we do indeed engage in magical thinking, and that alone demonstrates nothing less than her genius in this area of research. [Perhaps] We use magical thinking and don't even realize it. Promoting [touting] magical thinking as a practical perspective at an American university is likely to get any professor into serious trouble. The pragmatic orientation of this country does not allow for a teaching model that promotes magical thinking! Business, technology and science have nothing to do with magical thinking.

The way this man teacher introduces differential calculus is juts mind-blowing! I'm a MD, but studied first year of chemical engineering before going through the medical pathway. Calculus 1 and 2 were challenging, especially because in my school the maximum level of mathematics was pre-calculus. My calculus teacher was good, but this teacher makes differential calculus it look easier.
Excellent teacher. Thanks a lot Prof. Kathleen.
Could someone tell me the book that Professor Bawn recommends?"
A bunch of people going to school to find an argument towards their beliefs
She's sexy. Just sayin'.
Can someone share the list of books for the sectionals for this course??
Paris from gilmore girls started teaching!
I am SO stoked I just found this.
Basically this class is 2/3 BS.
👍

Great lectures, thank you so much for these quality knowledge
This lecture was quite interesting.
Are their links or pdfs to the mid term tests that he was referring to?I would like to challenge my understanding of these lectures
Anyone here makes a nice living with this besides him teaching it?
I love this, thanks
So...when we sleep we dream When we are awake we daydream...when we pay attention we misjudge reality...we see colors that are not in the world...we are biased in our decisions....we act, talk, respond influenced by the situations we are in...we live in a world where physic tells us that time is relative.....so... basically we are blind most of the time😂we live in a sort of dream even when we are awake
She’s a baddie
You might think you've already heard and understood everything Raia talks about, because it just seems like such basic and useless knowledge. But you're wrong. I swear by my gut and blood that at least over 98 percent of the people you meet in your life have never heard or thought of, let alone understood, what Courtenay Raia is talking about. And I'm not talking about rednecks, but people in positions, so-called decision makers. I'm talking about the lame, pseudo-educated elite that runs the country, college-educated zombies! Raia proves in a very forceful way that acquiring knowledge means living.
Ah the finger and anonymity.
Any other sound engineers reaching for the 630 notch LOL this is such a rich lecture and I can't watch it through because of the feedback :,(
I have listened to this series of lectures so many times. Over and Over. And I would give my left nut to obtain a reading list. I want to know the assigned reading materials for each of the lectures. I would pay for it.
11:32 the comic would be so funny if it wasn't true... I know a former male sex worker, and this is exactly what he says he had to do... many women--even married ones--didn't want sex, they just needed some attention
I'm from Brazil. I appreciate this video. The form to explain the theme is very excellent.
Great course, thank you!
I have seen this movie. IMDB Highest rated (one of it)
Which movie?

Terrific lectures - kind of wish the slides were not so blurry.
😂😂😂 ACTUALLY I DON'T KNOW WHO'S MADE YOU A TEACHER 😂😂😂😂😂 PLEASE 🛑
She says "ok" 175 times in this lecture. Pretty impressive.
Great lecture, however, I felt a bit uncomfortable that he just incorporated that student’s idea about the dark room being Dionysian into his lecture notes.
Is Lecture 5 missing? Too bad
What happens to this plant, whose leaves produce a mild toxin, when a herbivore starts eating its leaves? And the same plant species, but 100 meters away, produces the same toxin, even though no herbivore has started eating its leaves yet.
Anyone watching these lecture for the lectures's content, and outside of UCLA, this seems to be a review session only, mainly for their midterm. Next lecture is 03.11.
Thx
Thnx
45:00
thanks
She stressed me watching her. I’m not even her student.
